Or do you need a different gym

Let’s be fair, many of us go to the gym and don’t know what to do. It’s intimidating and there are so many options. Maybe a place that offers a plan for your workout could be helpful. If you’re driven by a plan then it may be worth going somewhere that guides you. Any CrossFit gym will have training. They tend to be solidly more expensive than your traditional gym, but they work much more closely with you. Also, the exercises are more unique, and that can be worth the money if it makes you use your membership.

Other gyms are a little different too. Orange Fitness sets you up with a clear workout plan and even has an app so you can check your progress. Curves is an all women’s gym if you prefer a situation that’s a little more specialized. Another fun option could be rock climbing! Could anything get your muscles, or your heart rate, up like climbing a wall? There a few places for this activity in town, including The Edge Rock Gym.

Maybe a gym isn't right for you

There are other ways to get fit that require few, if any, weights. Barre classes can be a good change of pace from the normal gym. It also gives you much-needed guidance. A yoga studio may be another good alternative. Yoga is good for flexibility but can also be very good for balance, strength, stamina, and mindfulness. Most yoga studios have a variety of classes to offer too. That variety can be a huge motivator. Don't forget about Pilates either, if that’s more your speed.

Get less constrained, and more social

Maybe you want to get really outside the normal fitness routine. Martial arts is an option that is more social and learning-based, with plenty of options to choose from. Do you want the camaraderie without having to get kicked or thrown around a room? A fair point.

Have you considered a sports league? There are lots of sports being played around Jacksonville! JaxFray is worth looking at, with intense sports like flag football, kickball, volleyball, and softball. They also have more relaxed sports, like cornhole and skeeball too. Or check out Jax Sport for Soccer and Softball. Make a friend while having a ball!
